Most comparisons of professional versus DIY window cleaning are written by companies pretending DIY cannot work, or by product sellers pretending it always does. Neither is true, so here is the version we tell friends and family.
Where DIY Genuinely Holds Up
With the right equipment and technique, DIY can be good. A ground-floor home, a proper squeegee, washing-up liquid and the mop-squeegee-cloth sequence from our technique guide will produce a result you can be proud of. If that describes your house and you do not mind the job, you do not need us, and we mean that.
Where the Professionals Win
Speed: we finish a full exterior in about an hour to ninety minutes — the same work absorbs most of a DIY Saturday. Standard: glass, frames and sills done to the same finish on every pane, including the ones you would quietly skip. Height and access: the decisive one. Upstairs glass, windows over extensions and skylights are where home ladders cause accidents; our poles work from the ground to 11 metres, and we effectively never skip a window.
The Difference DIY Cannot Replicate
The most common gap we see is streaking — usually from the spray-and-cloth habit rather than lack of effort. But the bigger one is the first clean. Years of baked-in dirt, paint flecks and stubborn deposits need scrapers and fine steel wool used carefully by hand. That restoration visit, averaging about €75 for exteriors, is what brings a property to the standard a quick regular wipe — or a water-fed pole alone — can then maintain.
The Honest Bottom Line
